Villa Cumulus
Wake up in an antique four poster King bed hand-carved in India, with views of the Gulf of Nicoya. Your villa is stocked with fresh eggs, bread, butter, fruit and freshly ground coffee from the farm. Pick your own tropical fruit or let our caretaker pick it for you. You can even roast and grind your morning coffee beans,
harvested from our hundreds of trees.
The Property
Cumulus kitchen is well appointed for your personal culinary preparations. Grill on the patio. If you prefer, by special arrangement, we can do the grocery shopping for your whole stay. Daily delivery of fresh produce from the property.
There are overhead fans in all the Villas, and AC is never needed. Cooler evening temperatures make sleeping a dream, especially in our luxurious linens and bedding.
Water is from our own well at Las Nubes, and is safe and refreshing to drink from the tap. The shelves are generously stocked ...cooking condiments in the kitchen and luxurious toiletries in the bathroom.
High speed internet and Alexa stations available in all the Villas and at the Pool.
At 1033 meters (3400 feet ) , Las Nubes is one of the highest points in the area with spectacular panoramic views from many spots. You have a front row seat for both the morning sunrise to the east over San Jose in the distance; and to the west, the sun-sational setting over the Gulf of Nicoya.
Though close to our neighbors in Jesús, Barroeta and Alto de Monte, Las Nubes is a private gated property.
Watching the fog form in the valley below and rise in waves of clouds towards Las Nubes, and finally engulfing the whole property for a time— is surreal.
It's a perfect landscape for birdwatching, insect, flora and fauna cataloging
and monkey-spying.
You might spend the day around the pool, swimming and reading, in and out of the sauna… or relax in the soaking tub at the edge of your villa garden. You could schedule a massage at the pool or at your villa. Bath and pool towels and sarongs provided.
At the highest point of the property there is a pavilion we call Nimbus– an ideal spot for morning stretching and exercise or quiet meditation.
There are several well marked trails on the property for easy exploring and some light climbs.
Guests at Cumulus can also reserve use of the large Sala at Las Nubes for a sunset watching cocktail-hour.

wildlife tours and more.
We can arrange for your transport from the airport (SJO is 40 minutes away) and for a rental car to be delivered to your Villa.
Having your own transportation gives you more freedom, but the steep, windy roads of Alajuela can be intimidating to some drivers.
If you prefer, day trips and tours can be arranged for you and we
have two taxi drivers on call for any town trips.
The entrance gates to Villa Cumulus and the larger property of Las Nubes are right on a paved road and the driveways are short and sweet…no torturous steep climb.
A 10 minute drive to Atenas gives you numerous options for dining out:(Tica/Polish/Indian/Thai/
Vietnamese/Pizza/Sushi/
Steak/Vegan/Seafood).
There are also bakeries, coffee shops, gourmet foods and wine, and a farmers market two days a week. Several restaurants provide carry out and we can suggest a driver to bring your dinner to Cumulus.

On site parties and additional guests are prohibited.
While Cumulus is very accessible to handicapped guests, traversing the complete property and climbing the short hill to the pool may be a challenge. Please consult the photos and message us if you have any questions.
For security we have two automatic property gates. You will receive your own remote. Our caretaker and his family live on the edge of the property and Bobi, our friendly guard dog patrols at night. Though close to our neighbors in Jesus, Barroeta and Alto de Monte, Las Nubes is a large private gated property.
Though not specifically prohibited, guests should seriously consider whether this is a good choice for children. There are inherent dangers staying in an open, natural environment such as Las Nubes and there is the chance that young, immature persons (like children tend to be) will fall or hurt themselves.

With the change of seasons comes the change of flying critters. Cumulus is screened… but so as not to obstruct the views, windows in the Sala at Las Nubes are screenless. Guests should take this into account, especially at night. At dusk it is wise to shut the glass windows if it is a flying insect season and always turn all lights out when leaving a room or building.
Please do not kill the geckos. They are harmless.
In May we have flying June beetles. They aren't cockroaches :)
High speed wifi service is available in all the Villas.
Alexa is available on Echo Dots in all villas and at the pool.
For guests renting the whole property, the Samsung Frame TV in the Sala
has Netflix and Amazon Prime.
There is no cable TV.
Dec/Jan Light wind begins carrying off the rain clouds. Sunny. Warm.
Feb/March Wind. Sunny. 60-80 degrees. Lirios, Bougainvillea. Flor de ítalo.
April/May 65-85 degrees. Dry. Sunny. Very little rain. Oranges and zapote
The rains begin around May 30... El invierno!!
The birds go crazy singing and building nests. Harvests of avocados, mango, guanábano, manzanas de agua, zapote and other fruit begin.
June, July, August A mix of rain and sun. Dramatic cloud formations.
New generation of birds: gorrion, toucan, colibrí among others
Sept/Oct More rain each day. Clouds engulf the property for awhile in the afternoon.
Nov Rain each day but not all day. No wind. Cool. Congos are active. Full flower coverage.
There is an abundance of flowers all year but here we mentioned some outstanding appearances. 4000 coffee plants flower with the rain and are harvested between October-March.
Cocos, limes, oranges, pineapples and bananas are available year round
Wild residents at Las Nubes: Iguana, pisoté, squirrel, congos and coyotes further off property,snakes, geckos, lizards,armadillo, mapache,monos blancos, bats, parrot,parakeet, dove, oropendela, toucan, chirwiro,colibri, coquette, trogan, magpie, thrush, plus examples of the 100,000+ species of insects and arachnids of CR (BUGS! especially May-Oct)
Fruit at Las Nubes: Banana, plantain, coco, yucca, kesquike,papaya.orange, grapefruit, flor de ítalo, passion fruit, pineapples,dragon fruit, guanabano, pear,zapote, tangerine, cacao, guava, mango, granadilla, aloe, star fruit, organic lettuces, tomatoes and other vegetables throughout the propoerty.
